Closet Organization Project

While Ant and I were at Babies R Us a while back I saw these neat closet dividers. There are six in the set and each hanger had a different month written on it, so you can organize your baby’s clothes by size. I thought they were neat, but wasn’t willing to spend $10 on them.

So, I made my own!

I just took some cheap cardstock I had on hand and used the Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge to cut on the letters and numbers. I used a 1 1/2” circle punch to cut the hole and then took my scissors to cut a slit in the dividers so I can get them around the bar in the closet.

Super simple to make, and best of all, FREE! Now I know these won’t last nearly as long as the ones you can buy in the store, but we really just need them for now to see how much clothing we have in each size.

Two Birthday Cards

Here are two very different styles of birthday cards I recently created.

The first one was for my husband, who turned 27 last Friday. He always says how he likes simple cards, so that’s what I made him!

Supplies:

-Stampin’ Up! Seam Binding ribbon in Crumb Cake
-SU! stamp from the Engraved Greetings stamp set
-SU! ink in Early Espresso and Crumb Cake
-SU! cardstock in Early Espresso (on large candle)
-Recollections kraft cardstock (card base and sentiment)
-DCWV Guy Stack patterned papers
-Brown embroidery floss
-Nestabilities Labels Eight die (sentiment)
-Wrap It Up Cricut Cartridge (candles)

The second card I made was for my future step-sister, who just turned 16. I used my Gypsy to create the card base.

Supplies:

-Stampin’ Up! rhinestones
-SU! cardsock in Basic Black (card base)
-K&Co. textured cardstock (numbers)
-DCWV Rockstar Stack patterned paper (“sweet”)
-Stars Cuttlebug embossing folder
-Black chalk ink
-Winter Woodlands Cricut cartridge (card base and numbers)
-Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge (“sweet”)

I’ve had a rough couple of days, and currently it is 6am… and I haven’t gone to sleep yet. I feel like crap, so I think I might call in sick today.

On a bit of a plus, I found this website called WebStore, which is kind of like eBay, but there are no seller’s fees, so I think I will put some cards up for sale on there in the next few days. I’ve been asked by several people to put my creations online for sale, so I will let you all know when I’ve got them up and ready!

Ok, I’m going to try and finally get some sleep!

Blizzard Update

Late last night we went and peaked outside our building’s front door.

This morning I woke up around 6:10am, just in case I was going to have to work. I decided to take a shower, and then call the opening manager to see what was going on. By the time I got out of the shower, one of the other managers had texted me to say to hold off going in until I heard from the other manager. I heard from her about 7:20am, and she said I wouldn’t have to go in today, and that the store would be opening around 1pm. And just recently I got another text saying we would be closed the entire day. I’m off tomorrow as well, along with Saturday and Sunday, so this next paycheck is going to suck!

But, because I didn’t have to go to work today, I have had a nice lazy morning, here are some other pictures I took of the blizzard.

First things first… breakfast! This morning I made cinnamon sugar toast and strawberry milk. Nothing brings you back to your childhood like a snow day and a nostalgic meal!

Our parking lot, around 7:30am

The patio didn’t get nearly as much snow as I thought it would, I guess the bushes and balconies above helped protect it

We went back to see what the front door looked like in the morning

I got a kick out of that dog, he was having a great time playing in the snow drifts

Last night I mentioned that I was going to make a banner, and it turned out cute! We’re hosting a small Super Bowl, so the banner is to decorate on Sunday.

I used 5 different Cricut cartridges, including 2 off my un-used list: Independence Day (triangles), Plantin Schoolbook (circles inside triangles for the ribbon), Birthday Cakes (font) and the 2 un-used carts are Boys Will Be Boys (footballs) and Office Help (starbursts).

To make the triangle shapes, I used my Gypsy and took the triangle from Independence Day and put a .5” circle from Plantin Schoolbook in each of the top two corners. I think the banner turned out cute, and I might make a couple more decorations for Sunday.

Here is the updated un-used cartridge list:

-Mother’s Day Bouquet

New “Create” Sign

Last summer one of my first projects with my Cricut was a wall plaque that said “Create.” You can see it here. Well, I didn’t take that sign with me (it’s still hanging in my old room at my dad’s), and I had been wanting to make a new one to match the decor of my craft room. So, that is what I worked on this weekend! I used the same Amy Butler Lotus paper as I did in my most recent scrapbook page. I am very pleased with how it turned out, it has a very ‘shabby chic‘ look to it. Check it out!

The plaque hangs on the wall right as you enter the room, just above the light switch (which just missed being in this picture)

Here is a list of ‘ingredients’ I used:
– Amy Butler Lotus paper
– 2 types of chain
-Various charms charms
– Ranger mini frame
– Vintage key
-Recollections fleur de lis epoxy stickers
-Recollections Boutique Fleur pearls
-Recollections Boutique Fleur flowers
-Clear bling
-Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Pearl (on the flowers)
-Buttons
-Ribbon

I also used the Plantin Schoolbook (circles), Accent Essentials (scallop designs) and Ashlyn’s Alphabet (letters) Cricut cartridges.

Let me know what you guys think!

Birthday Scrapbook Layout

It feels like it has been forever since I did an actual scrapbook layout. I worked on one from my husband’s birthday this past summer last night and this afternoon. Here it is!

No idea what brand the solid green cardstock is, but the patterned paper is from the Me & My Big Ideas Journey stack, and brown cardstock is Recollections

The “ANT’s” is cut from my new Birthday Cakes Cricut cartridge (I think that is my new favorite font) and the “Birthday” is from Calligraphy Collection

For the date I pulled out my trusty old Sizzix Sidekick and Cuttlebug letters and then put them through my Xyron “X” sticker maker

I cut the “26” and circles out from the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge and then Stickled it with some Distress Vingate Photo (I used the Stickles on the “ANT’s” too)

I’m pretty happy with how this layout turned out! Teaching the scrapbooking class for the past 4 weeks actually taught me some good tips on how to make better scrapbook layouts!

I hope you all have a great New Years too! This is probably my last post of 2010… but I look forward to many more in 2011! Tonight the hubby and I are keeping it low key at home. I’ve got to work tomorrow morning (yuckkk!) so we can’t do anything too crazy. Although we did buy a bottle of vodka to add to our collection, and of course a bottle of champagne for a midnight toast.

See you all next year!

P.S. I forgot to mention, Ant surprised me when I got home from work today with the Paisley Cricut cartridge! I had never paid much attention to that one for some reason, but I like it alot! Some of the word art on there is ahhh-mazing! I wish it had a font too, but no dice on that one. I can’t wait to use it in a project!
